Our First Ever Competition

On Saturday 4th March 2017 our new competitive teams travelled to Stoke-on-Trent to compete at ICE Big Chill, our first ever cheerleading competition.

First up was our younger team, Wildfire Glimmer. This year Glimmer is a small team of 9 girls aged between 7 and 9 years and they competed in the Mini (under 9) Level 0 division. There were a few nerves just before going onto the mat, but Glimmer pulled off what was most definitely the best performance of their routine they had ever done. Great synchronisation, technique and no major mistakes!

Soon after cheering on their younger counterparts, it was the turn of Wildfire Blaze. This team is made up of 12 girls and 1 boy aged between 10 and 13 years. Blaze was competing in the challenging Junior (under 15) Level 1 division, even though most of the athletes are actually Youth age (under 12). We could not have been any prouder of the routine Blaze put out at their first ever competition. It was clean, exciting and there were also no stunt or tumbling falls.

Every single member of our competitive programme tried their absolute best at competition and performed beautifully, and we couldn’t have asked for any more. However … the awards were still to come (after some celebration and dancing of course!)

Blaze received a very respectable 6th place out of 11 teams, many of which were older and more experienced than them. Lots of complex stunting is allowed in Level 1 and on this occasion we did not have the difficulty to score in the top 3. Many people commented however on our good technique and we can’t wait for Blaze to safely progress their difficulty for future competitions. Awesome job girls and boy!

Then the awards were called out for Glimmer. There were 5 teams in our division. 3rd was read out – not us. 2nd was read out – not us. By this point our hearts were beating very loudly …. and in 1st place, Wildfire Glimmer! We couldn’t believe it, what a moment! We all went to receive our 1st place trophy and take some pictures. We hardly noticed when the ICE judges started to announce who had won the Grand Champions award. Would you believe it? Wildfire Glimmer! This means that Glimmer received the highest score out of all 67 cheerleading teams competing that day across all levels and age groups. This means that their routine was very difficult within Level 0 and they performed it with very high levels of technique and perfection. Well done girls!

Our next competition will be on 21st May in Leicester. Both teams are now working really hard to up their game for this competition, we can’t wait!

For anyone interested in our competitive teams, please do Contact Us as we will be taking new members in September. There will be places available for children aged 7 to 14. If you have a younger child, or are and older teenager, please still get in touch as we would like to start a Tiny prep team and a Senior team and will do this as soon as we have the sufficient interest.
